Who Watches This Stuff!

OK! being from another country with a completly different way of life and outlook on things I just can`t get over the fact they televise deer hunting and then whats really weird is the fact that they show it on the sports channel.
Now I dont know about you guys but where I come from sport is where intellegent people pit themselves against same and the victor is deserving to be called champion/champions its not about grown men in full battle fatigues and camuflage lying 100feet down wind of an animal with a brain the size of a golf ball with a high powered rifle, come on lads that aint no sport.

When you are "lying 100feet down wind of an animal" you are in that animals domain. Their golfball sized brain serves two functions. Eat, and keep from being eaten. I don't hunt, but I enough to say that it is in no way easy.

I take it your from England and perhaps you never heard of the Fox hunt in your country where you have about 15 dogs and 15 horseman to chase 1 small fox in the name of sport and tradition.

Well being one of those hunters who lay in wait for some creature with a golf ball sized brain, I think I could comment.

I have been hunting for about 15 years. The number of deer I have shot...3.

I have been pheasant hunting a couple of times. The number of pheasant I have shot...0.

I have small game hunted alot. There are times when I come out of the woods with nothing more than I went in with.

While it may not look like a sport, those poor defenseless little creatures, are really nothing more than meat. I feed my family witht he meat I have gotten from hunting. Maybe it is just me, but I appreciate the animals that much more for doing there job, feeding me.

It's more challanging than walking out into a farm pasture and smaking a cow on the head for beef.

I am really just rambling now, but if you don't like watching it TURN THE CHANNEL.

Hey your family must be really hungry just kidding. All fair points lads but nobody is going to convince me its worthy of air time where kids can see it and grow up thinking its ok to kill animals for fun and call it sport, and I love veal and jucy burgers but I leave the process of getting it on my plate to the experts and hey they dont show that on tv.By the way I not from England I`m from Ireland and yes they have fox hunting there too and deer hunting and hunting where you walk into the forest and shoot anything that moves but the difference is we dont show it on TV I`m not knocking it but come on get a grip it aint no sport.Yes millions of animals are slaughtered every year for human consumption thats life but theres enough crap on tv without that.

If the show is able to sell ads then the show will air if it is found acceptable to the public. In this country, it seems as money dictates all, or at least that is my opinion.

Anything that attracts viewers will be put on tv.
And deer hunting is huge here.

I understand that that people are interested in it but they are people who also participate and the commercials are marketed towards that demografic, TV people know what there doing so its a win win situation for them if they thought they could make money by showing grass groing they would and theyed probably
show all sorts of fertilizers that make it grow even quiker on the commercials so the people watching would go out and buy the stuff, basicaly if theres a market for it theyll show it I know but thats just TV .As for reality TV - it SUCKS! , the only reality show I thought warrented a look was "The Joe Shmo Show" on Spike TV
the rest is just brain washing garbage.

Dan likes watching hunting and fishing shows. I think it's a 'check out the gear' type of thing. I find them about as exciting as bowling, but I know people who watch that too. Nothing is more obnoxious than these 'reality' shows. I'd rather watch bowling. I for one watch a lot of cooking shows.

I am in no way a fan of hunting, but there's a reason we have 400 channels. If you don't like it then change to another channel.

LOL, yea, watching hunting on TV is very boring, but then again I don't hunt. If I did I'd watch it to learn some tricks of the trade. Same way I watch bowling or billards.

I love hunting. I love to watch hunting on T.V. too. Just think, you are just making room for another animal. Now, if people who hunt don't eat the animal's meat, then they have no business hunting anyway.

What could be more boring than actually hunting ? Why, watching it on the tele of course. I love the argument that people hunt to feed their families. Haven't they heard of a grocery store ? Hunters suck.

yeah well putting a deadbolt through the skull of a cow on a conveyer belt sounds pretty sucky to me......but u know what? it serves its function, u dont have to eat the meat that it produces and is shipped to grocery markets nor do u have to hunt but to simply say such an ignorant comment is just plain hurtful. who are you to judge?

lets just chill out with the targeted comments, we're here to voice our opinions not bash each other. u wanna do that then come join the religion and politics forum(plenty of that goes on in there )

steve

ps poach hunting sux, yes ill agree with that. when u hunt just to kill thats not kewl at all. the hunters on this forum all eat the meat that they hunt. hunting has been around since the beginning of man there is nothing wrong with hunting if done in a respectful manner(ie hunting for food) and there is also nothing wrong with not hunting but to bash is for sure steppin' over the foul lines.
