Question advice on how to make the transition to a 20g from a 5.5g??

i dont know how to do this without harming fish or inverts

What do you mean buy harming them? Like nitrates? If thats the case then you will have to step up the tank before you move everything and let the new tank cycle.

Bag them up and acclimate them like you would acclimate them everything else.

Is the 20 set up yet? You are going to need more LR than you have in your 5.5 so unless you buy cured LR you will probably have another small cycle. If you put in new sand you can always take a scoop of your old sand to seed it. I would make sure all your parameters are in order and then start acclimating everything as if you just brought them home from the store. Another thing to keep in mind is your lighting. If you have a higher light output in the new tank, you may want to shorten your photo period so you don't burn your corals (if you have corals).
