Question Moving To Vegas. How To Move Everything

Well, I am moving to Las Vegas (Henderson Actually) And just would like some insite on how some of you moved your tanks and live stock over some distance. The bad part is, My company isn't giving me much time to make this move. So I will have to break down and move everything pretty much in 1 - 2 days. And I mean EVERYTHING. I have a 65g Reef & a 40g Seahorse tank. Just some idea's on how to move things. I was thinking of getting 2 50g Food grade Trash bins and put everything in them. Maybe 3. Thinking 1 for the sand and rocks. 1 for the fish and coral from the reef and one for the seahorses. I don't want to put rocks in with the seahorses as they can not move fast enough incase some rocks decide to move. What about airation? Get some battery operated pumps? Anything else? I plan on not feeding for about 2 days. I know this is going to be a pain. Any Suggestions Please. This will be happening next Monday (Jan 7th) So Any Fast To The Point Answers are apperciated.

Thanks Again!

don't move the sand... just keep a few cups to seed new sand. Also go to the LV forum and check on any LFS in the new area in case you need some fresh RO or saltwater.

Try to sell as much of the livestock as possible. You can keep the rock wrapped in wet newspaper/plastic bags for a week or so as long as it stays damp but it may need to be cycled again.

if your corals are no big deal for you to keep then sell it. If you really want to keep the corals then bag them seperately, keep as much as you can as far as water. Ditch the sand or just bring a little. Do the same for fish put them in seperate bag. Go to your LFS and ask them for the use styro foam box that they use to transfer corals. Put all the corals and fish in the styro foam box and pack it so they don't move that much. Be generous with your bag get the biggest one so you can put alot of water in there. And double or tripple bag them.

yeah i would sell them off. Its different when you move from one city to another but cross state and then to set everything back up. i would just sell all fish and set up again in vegas. BUt if you decide to do it i wish you luck its not and easy task. Remeber to keep them with a battery power air stone for air.

I don't won't to get rid of anything, as I Just got things pretty much the way I like them. To start All over again is not really an option. It is only a 4hr drive. I know some of you that went to R.A.P drove farther then that!. I Like the bag idea. My LFS will probably help me out with Bags & CO2. And I guess I can just put the rocks in a Trash can And ditch the sand. Maybe I'll Go BB. Thanks for the advise. I will let everyone know how it goes!

not CO2, O2.

bag them all with O2 in separate bags.

how big is your tank?

how many fish?

hire an employee of LFS to help.

maintain temp is VERY important.

i have friends who are experiences aquarists who moved a few hundred miles and they lost everything in thier tank.

have lots of extras water.

Is setting up a holding tank/barrel at your new location ahead of time an option? If so, you can move some LR first and set up your holding tank. When your ready to move your livestock, you have something waiting ahead of time to put them into. Now your 4 or 5 hour trip is just that, not 4 hours of moving, and a few hours to set up something to put them into.

This will also give you time to set your new system up correctly without being rushed.

I might be able to do this, If anything I will buy a little 20g long tank or something and get it up and running for a few weeks. I just found out I will probably move the tank a month after I actually move.. So this will give me enough time to do this. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks for all the great ideas!!

Even a new RubberMaid trash can will work.

I have used ycnibrc's method a few times. Being military teaches how to move your stuff. I just always pack for shipment whether across town or I actually mail to someone to have them "fish-sit" on the other end. If you can find a guy/store with a huge tank he can "fish-sit" for you in his sump.
Either way good luck.

alot of times you can call your lfs and let them know your coming...and throw everything into coolers...and then have them bag and o2 right there...throw them back in the coolers like your shipping..and off you go...that way you dont have to pay them to strike your tank..just the bagging...costs ALOT less than new livestock..When I moved i also saved most of my water...
Good luck
