Background or not. Need your opinion

I have an in-wall tank and I'm trying to decide if I should put a back ground or not. I temporally put a black trash bag to get an idea.

What do you think?

1 or 2

IMO the background brings out the colors of fish and it also hides the piping etc that is behind the tank

A background is good.

Don't forget, soon enough the back will be covered up with Coraline and alga.

I think it's a no brainer. I've never seen a tank without one that looked as good as one with.

Only if you don't clean the rear glass. Lots of people keep it clean, including myself.

Well, even if clean, I like the background.

So if you are going with us, time to get some paint. I've done both black and blue and prefer the black, but that will probubly be your next question!!!!

Thanks all! I'm going with a black background (with a shade of blue to keep everyone happy). Happy New Year!!

Clean is good,it reflects the light better.

Coraline covered is good also.

I think a background looks better, but so far i've kept my inwall without one. I like being able to look at the tank from 3 sides and i'll live with the look of seeing through I think. I was thinking of getting a black colored roller shade for the backside and keeping that down when i'm not in the fishroom.

I like the background option as well. And by the way, nice LR arrangement.

steve1963: It will stay clean. I check the tank from the back.
Gooli: That was the first choice, but you can still see some equipment and plubming.
siropa: My plan is to put some thin acrylic that I can slide in and out.
llorence: Thanks. I was just tired of the wall or rocks and that way the fish has more room. No rock touches the glass or over flow.

From the pictures you posted, personally I like the NO background. Tank looks more open like what you would see in the wild. The only exception to this would be if you have wires, PVC, etc in the back THEN you would want a background to conceal them.

Also, don't buy into the mandatory "black background" thing that everybody is using. Use whatever YOU think pleases your eye the most... JMO
