Yes, they are onto it in minutes, this Star is tiny usually they handle up to 3-4 times that size with ease. The Female (pink) is the muscle of the pair and comes in last to help the male flip the star over.

Thanks, they are a beautiful pair..the fact that the female is pink is awesome!!!! Standard acclimation for Shrimp, started a drip line inot the bag for about an hour. 1 Drip every second or so. Then just dropped them in. Everyone has their own way I guess dont take mine as gospel but it worked.

Generally a larger choco star will last them 2 weeks. A star this size will last about a week or less. Chocolate stars are great cause they stay alive longer and dont disentegrate as quick allowing the Shrimp to get a good meal and also not pollute the water.

No not really, they paralyse the star and keep it alive while they munch away. I have heard of people cutting off the legs of a starfish and keeping the star in a different tank and just feeding a leg at a time. I tried it and it didnt work, starfish died and nearly polluted my entire tank. But I have heard of it working tho!

Is it true that they only eat the suckers on the legs of the starfish or do they pretty much devore the entire star?

choco stars are like under $10 even for a large one...usually around $5 or $6

but an even cheaper way of feeding them is having those little astrina (sp?) stars...just breed those in your fuge or sump...give them a little algae and theyre happy

Asterina's take too long, the investment in Choco's and Sand Sifters is minimal long term, obviously its something you have to consider before you buy, knowing that you have to buy Stars for them every now and then. They eat the entire star too, leg by leg then save the central disc for last.
