Too large of drains ???

Well, I just checked the drain overflow calculator on the main page and the recommended drain size for the pump I planned on using is 1.82 inches. I typed in the highest rating of the pump to get that number, I assume through the 3 feet of head loss that I will be losing some of that pressure...

I had a 1.5" drain for it, and have another 1.5" bulkhead laying around... Should I add the other 1.5" drain to the plans, just throttle down the pump some if the head loss doesnt cause it to slow down enough, or just get rid of the 1.5" stuff and do (2) 1" drains ???

Where are all the plumbing gurus when I need them ?? LOL

No, just a small QT type tank that i'm making so I dont put anything into the 180 that shouldnt be in there.... This way I can get my stuff back from Rob so he's not stuck watching my coral for the rest of his life, and I can QT all my incoming stuff also. I originally was going to be using a 30B for it, but the guy who was buying my 40B backed out, so I figured I might as well use the 40B instead.

It'll be REALLY basic. 40B display with a 250 DE mh over it, 29g sump with the ER skimmer I bought off Matt, and a return pump. I wont be doing any sand so I wanted to be able to have alot of flow to keep anything I put in there happy.

The 180 is waiting for me to be able to get some lumber to build the stand and canopy.... I'm still waiting for my skimmer to make it here, and I also need to find a 75g tank to use as a sump for the 180.

I swear one of these months I will have a setup... I just think that it'll be easier to get this new tank setup for QT'ing and then slowly add stuff to the 180.

Not sure on the size but just make it easy, it's a QT tank. Set it up, get it stable and add your corals. Get a couple of Tunze 6025's on both sides of the tank, some good lighting and you'll be fine with a water change a week.

Use all of that energy in getting the wood for the fire! I mean wood for the stand that will ultimately hold up that 180! Lord knows, you're going to post another thread on "how should I build my stand" and then . . . ?

If you decide to add the overflows, put in the bigger pipe and add a ball valve to control the flow.

WWTTTTD?
(What would Tim the "Toolman" Taylor do?)

UUGGHHH?

Bigger is always better. That pump packs its own set and may push the limits of a single 1.5" drain(if it is plumbed in 1.5").

Even if you get that baby cranked only 1/2 way up, I doubt the need for powerheads.
