protein skimmer

It looks like my protein skimmer is not working tonight so I need to get another one. How long can I go without protein skimmer?

You can go plenty long enough to get on ordered and delivered. I would say months.

Just be diligent on water changes

thanks kdb. I currently have a coralife PS. Any suggestions on a new one. I was thinking of aquac remora. I want one that looks decent and is easy to set up and not too expensive, and of course does a good job. The coralife is ok, but was kind of a pain to get started.

What is ASM? And new ? I have fish and reef 50 gal tank. No cannister filter, just skimmer. If I do frequent H2O changes do I even need a skimmer? I've been reading and some sites say no. What do you think.

while water changes is the fastest way to get rid of excess nutrients, it is also the most inefficient... meaning, even changing a lot of the water will only get rid of a small amount of what you're trying to get rid of...

you can do away with a skimmer but you need another way to export nutrients... or else it will become a big head ache...

Littlefoot,

I would personally use a skimmer.
Jimi is 100% right the Remora is garbage, your coralife is better.

Do you have a sump or do you need a hook on back skimmer?

I need hob. I almost bought a remora today but didn't. Why do you say coralife better than remora?

Coralife is a much better skimmer than the HOB remora I have used both and have upgraded from both I was running my modded CSS220 on my 22g up until I took my nano down last week. I went from a remora to coralife to euroreef. now I have a Percison Marine Bullet-2 and I could not be happier the Bullet-1 would be close to the right size for that tank the MRC-1 is about the same exact skimmer just cheaper these would also be good skimmers.

The coralife isnt a bad skimmer, mine just kept breaking the ceramic shafts in the pump. I didnt like the fact that I had to turn it off, and unscrew the cup to clean it either. It skims decent enough though.

Hey- found out the air intake hole was clogged with salt crap.
Cleaned that out and skimmer started working good again. This was after I went out and bought a new one.. Luckily I hadnt opened it yet.
