2 skimmers same as one?
is running 2 skimmers rated at 150 gallons the same as running one skimmer rated for 300 gallons. I already have the two smaller ones, and don't want to spend the extra money if I don't have to.

You can get away with it. The one rated for 300 gallons might have longer contact time, so it might do a better job. Key word: might!

I beleive the skimmers tank size rating is more of a guess. For example ER, Deltec & Bubbleking probably have a different idea behind what their skimmer can skim then lesser companies like octopus, fission etc.
I have also wondered the same thing though. If two $250 skimmers are better then a single $500 skimmer & also at more expensive pricepoints. Or if 2 7-8 in dia skimmers equal the performance of a 10 or 12 in skimmer. I would think it depends on overall diameter of reaction chamber as well as the quality of the pumps, how much air they are drawing Most just state go with the biggest skimmer you can get. |
