Protectent for hood

I am in the process of refinishing my hood and a friend told me that the fumes from the sealant could kill my fish. Has anyone had experience with how long I should wait before putting it back on? I am using a polyurethane gloss, no stain. Thanks in advance.

After it sets, wipe it with a damp rag and dry it everyday until the smell goes away. It's always safe to assume that if you can smell it, you should probably wait.

Polyurethane will off gas for a couple of weeks. It is better to wait.
