Yet another ID (whelk?)
Im thinking this is some sort of whelk, but exactly what it is still eludes me. I found only two of these little guys(very small shown next to one of the trochus by comparison,) they travel the rocks, glass, and sand...any thoughts appreciated.
 harder to really see but there it is...

I can't ID them, but you are very wise to get them ID'd. I personally do not trust any snail that looks like that until positively ID'd as a good guy.

I usually see the one at least a couple times a week being so small, but when I spotted the 2nd I figured its time to see what they are. Plus Im hoping to get a clam for christmas and don't want the possibilities of something making dinner out of it...ill hold off tossing these two little buggers into the 6 inches of snow we just got hammered with.

Both snails are columbellids, in the Dove Shell family (called "Strombus Grazers" by some suppliers or retailers). They shouldn't be a problem in your tank. The shell in the top photo is a juvenile, and the bottom one appears to have an adult lip. I think they are both variations of Pardalina testudinaria, a particularly variable species.
