Bubble like extensions on my featherduster

I know this are normal for the feather duster because it's had them ever since I got it.. But I was wondering what the bubble like extensions are and what purpose do they serve? I'm assuming this means it's healthy and happy?

This is what it first looked like.. The extensions are small here and to the upper right side of it..

This is what it looks like now..

Do you mean the hair algae or the red bubble things? If you mean the hair algae, I do try to pull it off.. But the feather duster pulls back in and I can't get all of it..

this might sound like another newb ? but i have some red bubbles that do not have stems like that. They just bubble up on the rocks and bunch up. I tried to do a fresh water dip after scrubbing off and within 2 weeks it is back with a vengance. I will try to get some photos up tonight but if you have any suggestions please let me know.

I have a bubble algae eating Naso Tang. Joe had a little bubble algae growing, and the Naso kept it trimmed to just a few bubbles.
