How bad is it?

Tuesday I did some major rockwork and water change, and unplugged all electrical equipment while working in my tank. I plugged everything (or so I thought) back in, and realized today I forgot to plug my heater back in. My temp. is usually around 78 degrees; it was 64 degrees when I got home from out of town today. It's warming (slowly) up now, and everything is alive and swimming around and eating fine. Is there anything else I should do, or should I just let it be? Thanks!

There's nothing you can do but get the temp back to where it should be. These animals are resilient. They'll be ok. I had my temp drop from 85'F to about 72'F and stay that way all night and everything was ok. $20 Azoo fan did that. I just wouldn't be in a hurry to bring it back up. Let it come back with as much ease as you can.

I picked up one of the high low alarm Big Temp Alerts and its saved me twice so far. Once when a heater malfunctioned by sticking on and once when I forgot to turn it back on after maintainance. Very cheap insurance for a few bucks.

edit: Actually it helped one other time also, because I keep the probe at the top near the waterline. Once when my return pump failed the main tank level dropped about an inch exposing it to the air, this also set off the alarm.

It's fine since it probably got cold really slow nothing went in a big shock. Just bring it back up slow. If it would of been really fast then there might of been some problems.

I also have a 46 bow front tank and my tank wont drop below 78, no heater! Couple big *** Mag 1800's on it, few stream pumps, and a chiller for my two halides during the day!

No worries with that, just bring it back up slowly, small slow changes is the key to success, with whatever parameters.

I had a Porties cylindrica that was shipped to me from drsfosterandsmith.com just from Wisconsin, hardly 6 hours away, anyways, it took 30 hours to get here FedEx and by the time it got to my door the water temp in the bag was 52.6 degrees, three hours of acclimation and was looking pretty in another two under my T5's in my QT @ 78 deg.

Same thing week after week workin in the fish store here in town, going on four years, winter usually brings mortality rates up 3% but that type of stress is nothing compared to the trans shipping our livestock goes through during Iowa winters.

currently -7 outside, feels like -16 with the wind chill. California...hah!

take it easy,
andy
