pokerstar/ rainbow monti??
I have a nice colony (no camera) of monti given to me by a friend. I can't tell if it's a rainbow or pocker star ....what exactly is the difference?

the edge of the rainbow will start to show signs of orange/red polyps where it grows out. almost looks like leaves changing in the fall (in my mind). the poker (from Ive seen) is alittle more purpler base too...rainbow shifts from purple to darkblue (from what I can see) on the base

I have both pieces and my pokerstar stays with the green polyps all over the body. There are no orange or any other color, even on new growth. The base is a barker blue than the rainbow as well.
As for the rainbow the base for me is a little lighter blue and the new growth areas have red to orange polyps. The innermost polyps are green. HTH Mike |

I've seen pictures of poker stars with grenn in the center and an orangish color on the edges, similiar to a rainbow but not red on the edge and not 3 colors.
Personally I think they are both close but not exactly the same. I have 2 rainbows and the one that I bought directly from Rommel is the nicest and looks different that the other rainbow I bought locally for cheap$ I think unless you can trace a pokerstars lineage you might just end up with one similiar to it. That's why I ask...I have one large 2"colony that looks one way in my main display, then an encrusting frag that looks completely different under t-5...crazy puprle base, and finally one more that's under a 17g halide that has almost all orange polyps!
