OT - Any good deals on LCD TVs anywhere?

I have been wanting to get an LCD tv, but have been waiting for prices to come down. Anyone know where I can find a good deal?

Don't look for the good deal, look for the quality LCD. If it's a quality one then look for the good deal. You will kick yourself if you get one of the cheapies "they" are selling right now. Quality is Hitachi, Panasonic, with good options.

I was shopping for LCD TV's this weekend as well, and was surprised that my TV-preference was really DLP. You really need to go shopping for yourself and compare models. Bottom line, there are a lot of really great HDTV's out there right now. In comparing price alone, TigerDirect had really good prices, but many of the stores are matching those prices this weekend, and the discount store price is even better if you were planning to have TigerDirect ship it to you.

i tried, and failed, at getting the 42 inch LCD HD Polariod from wal-mart. that was an amazing deal.
sears has a 42 by toshiba on sale today for i think 1200. while supplies last of course, not bad either.

Picture quality is what you really need to look at. ALOT of the flat screens will show shadow lines when the picture is moving. NOT what you want out of a "good deal".

Tiger Direct is in the city and a lot of items can be picked up from them. They have some really good Christmas deal going on as well.

I agree. I typically don't notice the stuff that other say drive them crazy with image quality, but I did notice a lot of yucky "bargain" LCD's yesterday. I recommend you go into the stores and look at the pictures. Don't impulse buy!! Jot down the ones that look best to you, then do some research online to say what CNET and Consumer Reports has to say about them and read the customer reviews on some sites. In the long run, the research is worth the effort.

For example, in the LCD model I was looking into, I found out that the only difference between last year's model and the new model is one HDMI port and moving the ports off to the side of the TV. However, the new model was $500 more. Are those changes worth $500? To me it wasn't, but to someone else it might be.

That depends on what you'll use it for and where you're going to put it.

The first two are good for wall mounting, DLP isn't.

If you play video games, don't go for the plasma as it can suffer from burn-in.

In my family room I have a Sony SXRD which is similar to a DLP, and in my bedroom I have an LCD. I think each has its benefits.

I've seen some nice 42" 1080p LCD deals the last few days online. I think Costco has one. Sharp Aquos.

That's a matter of personal preference. Maybe this will help:

I bought the Samsung 46" LCD, it was CNet's best performing LCD they reviewed. My reasons for choosing this model was to hang it from the wall, play video games, less power consumption. It was on "sale" at best buy for $2199. I got it on amazon.com for $1750 w/free shipping and no tax. Don't always look at the price first, I mean you could get a 50" for cheaper and your going to have some drawbacks. Find a good quality set at a decent size and then start comparing prices at the differant stores.

I like LCD's better myself... everything just seems crisper to me. I have an LCD projection in my living room and a LCD flat panel in my bedroom...

You definitely wany yo go to one of the stores and look at a few models side by side... make sure that theyre both displaying the same inmage through the same feed type though.... if ones going through HDMI make sure the other one is also, or composite, etc....

Oops! Wrong article. I picked the first one that popped up in the search instead of the second one:

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/e...tv_types_1.htm

This article is from Christmas last year, but the market hasn't changed changed too much in the past year. Most models available last Christmas are still on the sales floor.

sony style at old orchard shopping mall has this really nice HDTV (im pretty sure it was LCD), seemed about 50-60" maybe, and was only about 1500. Not a flatscreen

And dont trust my numbers 100%, i saw that a few weeks ago.

If is wasn't a flatscreen it was probably a rear projection.

I have been researching a bit myself, and considered this LCD until I read in Consumer Reports that 1080p is wasted money on anything under 50" cause it's to small to see the difference.
