Yes.. My wife dislikes my perculas for that exact reason. I get the "Why dont they go in and out of the rocks? Why do they only stay on one side?"

Why should they. Theres no other fish to bother them . You need some more rockwork though. Fish like hideing spots and will always claim an area to feel safe and sleep in . Perhaps with more stock and more caves and ledges then they may want to look more alive.

I'd add some frogspawn or something for them to cozy up in.
Add some inverts like a cleaner shrimp. Maybe a royal gramma or something small like that that does cruise the caves. More corals when you can for flavor/movement.

corals are next on the list. i had a cleaner. that had bin in the 30g for 6 months. but i woke up 2 dyas ago to find the crabs munching on him for brekky must have died over night. rather odd as water params were perfect when i checked them that morning. and eveything else is fine too
and would a frogspawn be ok under my lights :S i looked it up and it says they need strong light and are hard to care for. lol Last edited by new_world_disor; 11/14/2007 at 09:34 PM. |

Don't know what you have for light, but I've seen FS under PC's even many times.
Mine actually looks better when shaded from bright light, and fairly easy. Clowns will probably love it. Hammers are cool too.

Euphyllia do great under decent PC light. I had a torch that double in size ever 2 months in a 12G nano cube. Although, I might suggest something different for your clowns, as if they decide to host your euphyllia, they can aggravate it to death. Maybe a toadstool or a bta?

Another suggestion I have would to add a BTA of some sort. My clown fish became terrified of other bigger fish I added to my tank and always swam behind my overflow; So I felt bad and added a BTA, and the clown hosted the anemone after two days. Now the clown is more confident and holds his ground. It's funny because he is a gold bar maroon clown. Anyway you should consider adding a anemone. Its entertaining to see them moving in and out of the anemone.

Clowns are not the world's best swimmers....that's what makes them so funny. They also aren't fish to go exploring and in and out of rocks.
Now, if you can find something for them to host in, you'll find them VERY interesting. I second the BTA idea....or at least a frogspawn or something that they might take a liking to. I know a person who's clowns host in giant fuzzy mushrooms (if you are worried about your lighting being able to support a BTA) Tracy

Perculas are like that IME. Kind of boring to me.. Unless they are hosting, they just wim aimlessly and usually in one spot. EVen if they are hosting I still find them kinda boring, but still a cool iconic reef feature. But I almost think of them as part of the reef and not fish...lol
My tomato clown is far more curius and like caves, overhangs and hosting a variety of coral. It likes it spots but ventures around the tank and is more interactive... |

Well yesterday my BTA killed himself... The day before he got caught up in my submersed pump. Luckily I shut off the pump fast enough that the nem pulled himself out with a little help from my nem crab...It was crazy. Then yesterday I get home from work and find him stuck in the pump again but this time 10x worse. I had to end up taking out the pump and taking it apart. He didnt look too good and my water was a lil cloudy so i did a water change. I guess its my fault for not having foam over the intake grill. On the other hand, annnnemnomes seem to be pretty stupid. I dont think I'll get another one.

many many clowns don't go into rocks/caves
in the wild they would be eaten if they did that =) they need a coral/anemone to go into. maybe try a hammer/torch/frogspawn?
