What is Denmark?

Hello!

Where I come from, a often heard joke is about, what you Americans think Denmark is. Examples that I´ve heard is so far:

The capital in Sweden
The capital in Ikea
A city in the US
A regular country in Scandinavia.
A pub in NY
No clue

As an American, what do you think, when the word "Denmark" is said?

It's right under Norway and Sweden. I think of a sunset view of a coastline with a lot of little isle-lets. I've actually flown over that coast when, thanks to the misdirection of an Atlanta GA airport cop, SAS helpfully sent my luggage to Norway and sent me down to Geneva. [I was on my way to Oslo, and it was the best routing they could get. I did catch up with my luggage.] And I'd love to visit Denmark. I think of Copenhagen and the little mermaid.

I'm not sure why I find this humorous, but I do.

Well, Sk8r had it right.

One of our most famous events in the Danish history, was the Muhammed drawings (Which is, by the way, NOT drawn by every single dane, as some muslims believe).

Our biggest worldconcerns is Maersk (Spelled in danish with a Æ - Pronounced as the British word "Eh")
Lego
Vestas
And SAS

The danes´ pride is our old farytalewriter H.C. Andersen (Who took more wankers than breaths and made a mark in his diary every time he did so - Oh yes, there´s much to be proud of. NOT)

And our hole nation has still not forgiven Germany for invading our country at WW2 - Unfortunatly, Germans prefer to spend their holidays on danish beaches, in so [profanity] cold water, that [violation].

One thing, that many people do not know is the fact, that Greenland is a part of Denmark.

Clean it up, or your stay here will be short - Anemone

Isn't that where people go around digging up skulls and talking to them ("Ah Yorick....")?

Vikingtime is over my friend Now we talk with our fishdealers, and cuts their skulls off when they tell the price on our corals (Which is 10 times more than American prices - We pay 75 dollars for a single, boring, onecoulered Ricordeapolyp, and then we´ve done a great deal)

What you've got to do, Koralfisken, is to propagate those little ricordias and trade them about.
Back in the 1980's, 'fragging' [breaking corals into fragments and selling/trading] was where modern reefing began. If one person in Denmark can get one specimen and, by careful reef-culture, turn it into 20, that's a good thing, and eventually you can trade a few for a species that hasn't been seen in Denmark before. I have my own eye on a bali slimer that I know dates to the 80's, and by now that one coral must have a thousand 'descendants' all over the NW USA.

Wasn't there some saying about "something fishy in Denmark"?

Seems to fit.

Anemone ... don't think too badly of Koralfisken. I used to take care of aupairs and I noticed that a lot of the girls from Sweden and Denmark would get in trouble with the families for cussing in front of them and even in front of the kids.

It turned out that they watch all of our American movies over there in English, not dubbed and that's a big contributor to how they learn English. When I explained how inappropriate some of the words they were using are, they were shocked and told me that "that's how everyone talked in American movies" so they thought it was all okay. I had one Swedish girl who was sweet as can be but could cuss out a sailor. It was amazing.

Denmark is where they get all your clothes mixed up, especially underwear. Don't ever do your laundry there. You've been warned! And visiting Tivoli can get you banned from RC too.

Jessica Alba, she's Danish. If all Danish gals look like that , I'm moving there.

Also, US "Virgin Island" used to belong to Denmark (really, look it up).
And if I may add. It used to be full of Danish virgins, its now called "the Island". Why ???
Chuck Norris visited there.

Koralfisken: I just read a really great book called 'A Night of Watching' by Elliot Arnold. It's all about the jews being rescued in Denmark. I had no idea that the Germans were involved with Denmark till I read this book. 1 of the better books I have read in a long time.

Well, I will apologize my angry language. As crpeck mentions, it can be vary hard to find the right words, especially if your favourit TV-Serie is Joey. Of course, this doesn´t make my language fair at all, so once more, I´m sorry.
