I guess this is a Zoo eating Nudi?

Found this little bugger on a Zoo colony tonight. Ive also picked a few of them out before but they were on the glass.

Do a once a week FW/Lugols dip for the next 3 weeks to knock off any new ones and get the rest when the hatch if you missed any the previous week.

You can also use a turkey baster to gently blow water across the colony to get the zoas to close up and then use it to suck up the nudis if you see some up in the colony. I had some years ago on my red zoas and the nudis "tentacles" were actually red as well so they were well hidden. I guess they turn whatever color the zoa is as they ingest it like my berghia nudis do as they turn brown as they eat my aiptasias.

Dipping every other day is safe if performed correctly and is much more effective. If you have P.Grandis, DO NOT DIP THEM, they can not tolerate a fresh water dip and will succumb quickly.

5 or 6 drops of Lugols to 1 gallon of RO water with the dip water matching the temp of your tank.

I havent seen any since but Im sure there are more. I havent lost any zoos recently but the rock Ive found that one on has 400+ polyps so if one or two go missing, Ill never notice.

The nudi in the above picture is less than 1/2".

Mucho I found my first nudi ever and I believe it came into the tank on some P. Grandis. Will these nudis eat P. Grandis?? Can I do a SW dip with lugols?? Will that do anything to help get rid of the nudis??

I think grandis's have thicker skin and have sediments of sand and debirs that they sink into their skin to protect them.

I believe its a defense mechanism of the palys but don't know to what extent on the effectiveness.

Palythoa have larger polyps but are also embedded in a common tissue. The texture of the base of both the Palythoa and Protopalythoa is rough from the incorporation of sand and sediment directly in the tissue. The assimilation of the material is thought to be both for defense and support. The larger polyps lend themselves to feeding on larger meatier foods.

Protopalythoa much like the Palythoa in size but with the exception that the polyps are not connected to one mass of tissue. Some seem to have less more pointed tentacles in some cases they even alternate up and down (Sprung 2001)

go buy a yellow or green coris wrasse.

both a very reef safe, beautiful, and will eat nudis like an assasin.

i got a green coris wrasse and rid my tank my nudi problem, which was pretty bad. In just about 3-4 days, there wasnt a nudi to be found.

But like all fish, just because one does, doesnt mean the next will. Best of luck.
