Spectacular DIY sump

My friend in Puerto Rico decided to build his own sump for his new 92g corner tank, I am posting the pics because I thought that it was worth showing this project. Keep in mind that my friend has never done a sump or work on acrylic, check it out

The sump was made with a few things in mind, first was to maximize the odd shape space under a corner cabinet, then it was to ensure that the skimmer and refuge were able to fit in one unit, pretty much self contained.
The skimmer that will be use is a DAS BX1, the two strip that you see in the bottom of one of the chambers are to raise the skimmer to optimum height.

wow are you sure he has no experiance with acrylic because he did one mighty fine job on that sump. How thick is that acrylic and how hard was it to bend with the heat gun?

Great job! Looks to be either 3/8 or 1/2 acrylic.

yes, the outer shell and bottom was made in 3/8" all the partitions were made in 1/4".
There was no previous experience with acrylic nor sump making but a lot of experience in other manual trades I believe he owns the carpentry shop that you see in the pics.

Tagging along. I have a 92 corner and was wondering how you were going to get that under the stock Oceanic stand, until I saw your custom stand.

When you bend a thick piece of acrylic like this, do you get any excess at the ends of the sheet? Specifically, the bottom of th bend because it needs to be flat and glued to the bottom sheet.
