moonlights are purely for humans No benifit for fish or inverts.
So running them when and how long is totally up to reefer preference.

Some people say that research indicates that simulated moonlight will help with the spawning of your animals. Don't know if that is true or not, but the light is mostly for human enjoyment, because alot of activity can happen in your tank at night, with the nocturnal creatures. You can run led moonlight 24/7 with no problems. They use no energy basically, and don't put out any heat, so most folks run them all the time. the life of them is like 7-9 years if I remember correctly.......

I don't know about fish...but I've done alright with simulated moonlight and a bottle of wine---

moonlights of any colour are not going to bother the inverts and fish--too low in lumens.

Imo----with lighting---it can make a difference if you time attinics and halides to simulate dawn--then day--then evening.
With colours the change from day to evening stimulates them to feeding.
