Question Neon Dottyback

Are neon dottybacks anorexic and anti social? I have yet to see mine come out of his hole to eat or check out the scenery. Also, what foods are preferred. i have only a clown in with him.

Thanks,

Adam

They can be. I had a Fridmani Psudo and he hid most of the time.

Most dottybacks like to hang out in holes and wait to dash out when food is floating around the tank. IME I also have a Fridmani and he does the same thing of darting from shaded hole to shaded hole.

They are known to be secluded to one area. I know my royal gramma was very shy in my QT tank, but that changed once he was introduced to my large tank with a school of chromis. They acted as nice dither fish.

The one I had a few years back was very social. He would come out and look right at me. He had his hiding spot in a barnacle shell which went with him to his new home after I had to take my tank down. I guess all their personalities are different. I didn't feed him much. Many times he had a very full belly without any food at all. I assume he was eating small bristle worms from the rock.
