Salt Mixing

Does anyone know of a chart of some sort for mixing salt water. I have been buying my saltwater for LFS and have just bought a RODI and learning to mix my own. Any help appreciated.

i'm not aware of a chart or anything, but every salt is a little bit different. it's supposed to be 1/2 cup for every gallon, but whenever i do my water changes i always end up adding a half a cup more. (also depends on what specific gravity you're trying to achieve.)

I would invest in a refractometer. They are around 40-50$ and will let you know the exact specific gravity of saltwater you are making and have in the tank.

Marine depot and Premium aquatics sell them.

Paul.

I've got one of those, but it is set up for Oilfield brines. Same basic principle but takes a minute to convert.

Cool. You already understand that there is a difference between brine and saltwater FWIW, Boomer here on Reef Central did some digging around and found out that the major manufacturers for Refractometers easily purchased in the aquarium trade were selling brine refractometers for seawater refractometers. Randy Holmes-Farley has done a few really good articles on this, and has even made a home made calibration fluid recipe to help you make sure that you're getting the most accurate readings. Let me know if you would like links to those.
