Are the smoky fires causing any issues in your reef tanks?
Are the smoky fires causing any issues in your reef tanks?
I seem to have more algae bloom in my tank. Any recommended air cleaner to help with the smoke and smell? My lungs could like a break From Irvine Thanks in advance Simon |

Change your home AC air filter to the 3M Filtrete air filter with a microparticle rating of 1200 and higher. They carry them at Lowes and Home Depot. They highest rating filter works great for allergy sufferers. The only bad thing is that filter out so much stuff that you will have to replace them after a month or two.
If you dont want to run your AC then you can run it in fan/vent mode |

No ill effects yet. Just lots of evaporation due to the low humidity.

I just checked online. Its 90 in Newport and all my windows are close. I need to go home and start runnning the fans since that will definitely heat up the house. Surprisingly warm

strange, my tank seems to be running on the cool side.
i think that evaporation is slightly higher. My pool looks like crap though. Clogged the cleaning thing that runs on the bottom and evaporation is crazy. do you guys keep outside dogs inside? i've been keeping him in the bathroom. |

For the smell I hear an active carbon filter is needed?

I've always run a DIY carbon filter on my skimmer air intake which is suppose to help eliminate alot of airborne gunk from getting in. I took a plastic jar and drilled a hole in the bottom big enough for the air tubing. Filled the jar with a layer of floss, carbon, then more floss. The screw-on lid is then drilled with many small holes. Probably not perfect but my hope was to reduce the injection of pollutants from things like household cleaners and other stuff. It also acts as a great muffler on needlewheel and venturi skimmers which make a strong sucking sound.

Nava, it's warmer everywhere. It's suppose to hit 100's in the valleys today.

I don't think the smoke is bad on the westside, but it is very dry and unusually hot. I've had huge evaporation just overnight!
