Question hybrid angel?

anyone confim if this is a hybrid or not.... I notice in Scott Michaels reef fishes vol 3 that Flame cross breed with Potter's and Shepard's angels... looks like its got some Rusty in it to me though!

Its not mine incidentally.

come on RC - don't let me down!

As well as opinions, I am interested to hear reasoning behind suggestion.

Personally I think its a Flame/Shepards cross.

Anyone point me to any other images of such a fish?

highly doubt it is a fishers x flame. Very very very very rare, and i think there was only 1 reported case of it. and since flames are not common in Hawaii it is unlikely. It does look like a rusty angel in there.. hmmm

interesting - I have to admit I haven't seen a Shepards Angel here in the UK in three years. However, every image I have been able to find of that fish seems different to the fish above.. mainly due to the boldness of the black bars which seem very 'flame angel like' to me.

As I mentioned in my second post, aswell as ideas, I'd be interested to hear reasoning behind them as well as pointers to any images that may bolster claims.

Sheppards aren't especially common here either. Although the bars are a little darker it just doesn't seem like a hybrid to me. I don't know though and there probably aren't many people out there who would really be able to tell.

According to fishbase, females have little or no purple.

I agree it looks like Shepardi to me as well. I would be interested in hearing about the history of this fish because it may have originated from a hybridiation between a flame and a rusty or some other Centropyge.

Here are the pictures for each on fishbase

It could be a morph of either. If you look on the sheperdi they have four "independent" spines on the dorsal spine before it fuses. On the flames it is seven. It is not clear on the fish above.
