With that lighting, I would agree with victor. Start at the bottom. Your Zoas should do more then fine under MH's.

At the bottom, and slowly move them up if you want to. If you bleach them it can take quite awhile to come back, so better safe than sorry.

do they need to be acclimated to the light? i.e.4 hrs next day 5 next day 6? also should i put it on the sand? i have a diamond gobie, so i guess maybe not b/c he'll cover it w/ sand. just a little higher i guess, right?

From what I have learned you are technically acclimating them by placing them on the bottom of your tank and slowly bringing them up. The farther away they are from the light the less light they are receiving; therefore you are acclimating them.
Someone else also mentioned that if the hairs on the polyps are pointing up it means they are calling for light. If they are out they are good and if your polyps are kind of closing then they may have too much light. Hope I am correct and I hope this helps. |

how long does it take for them to open up after you put them in your tank?

opening depends on their condition and your water. if your water params are good, dont worry too much. they will open up sooner or later. zoas are pretty hardy.
