My pyramid was totally reef safe and a beautiful fish. He never bothered anything in the tank at all.

Anyone think a pyramid with 2 tangs would be alright or would the tangs (hippo and yellow) shred one. I guess they are a little timid.

any known issues with them nipping at/eating zoas, clam or feather dusters/tube worms ? (like CBBs are known to).

If you have the mejanos you may have a hard time even getting butterflies to get rid of them all. You may just have to bite the bullet and cook your rock for a year or more.

they eat out of the water column so there is virtually no chance they will eat corals. Keep them well fed and you wont have problems.

Copps on the board has a pair in his reef tank. maybe he'll chime in

Copps said his ate all his aiptasia, so maybe there is hope. I found the biggest drawback to pyramids is finding them. Although collection isnt rare per se, they are bought as quickly as they are made available. If you see them, jump!

They butterflies that will eat majanos will likely eat coral too. I had a saddleback destroy some (and all aips) in my FOWLR.

If you can get the rock out of your tank, just dust it with kalk like a powdered donut. Leave the rock out of the tank for 15 minutes or so - the coral will be fine for 15 minutes. Call it a powered majano.

Yeah mine eat aiptasia right away... no experience with majanos though... and they are in with mainly sps and clams, so no experience with them with soft corals and the like...

They don't ALWAYS feed from the water column... these below I shot in Micronesia picking on the reef with my sorry point and shoot... so their likeness for aiptasia is understandable...

These fish are everywhere though... even common in Hawaii in places, but it's almost like they're born there at 6 inches! You just can't find them small... I wonder if they're deeper at that size... So for that reason you won't usually see them coming out of Hawaii, except for fish shipped through there like those from the Marshalls... The same thing that makes them reef safe makes them hard to catch! They're not like Chaetodon sp. that hug the reef in singles and pairs...

This fish should be more popular!

Here's the shot of my pair...

I talked to a vendor back east about a pair this morning, but with shipping they were almost $200 *uugghh* . If he could have confirmed that they were inclined to eat aiptasia (but he couldn't) I might havbe almost considered it, but that is alot to spend on a "maybe". I he finds any aiptasia to toss into that tank to see if they eat it then I may reconsider

I often see small pyramids here. They're not particularly common, but many pyramid schools will have a few small ones mixed in.

Pyramids aren't particularly hard to catch, especially since they like to school up and can be herded en masse. I think the reason they're not more common in the trade is that they prefer very specific habitats and aren't found in many of the spots frequented by collectors.

I will get pics tomorrow. The lights are out now.

When I added them they paired up right away. The LFS had three but one had a mouth that wasn't looking quite right - I didn't buy it. The two that I bought ate Rod's food at the store.

My yellow tang checked them out right away - show off. It seems in the first few hours that they are acting somewhat comfortable. By that I mean no obviously odd behavior.

Well, its the first fish loss i've had in some time so I guess I'll just have to look for a better pair next time. They ate right away but I think they were a bit skinny to begine with.

I aclimated them good but no QT. Next time I'll put them in my fragless frag tank to chill out for a few weeks and fatten up.
