No tang is appropriate for a 55g tank, including a Kole. The only one I'd even think about is a small yellow tang. . .and then I'd reconsider. What about something like a flasher or fairy wrasse? With 3 damsels in the tank, you're definitely going to want something that can hold its own. Most gobies and blennies I'd worry about being too timid. . .with the exception of the fanged blennies (Meicanthus genus). They're very tame, but most fish realize they're venomous and leave them alone.
Or if you could get your hands on one of these guys. I love mine:

There are quite a few wrasses that might fit the bill. If you're not keeping any shrimp, a hawkfish might make an interesting showpiece fish - they can definitely hold their own, and they're fun little characters.

Please don't go with a tang. They need lots of room, six feet minimum, and lots of flow. Go with a wrasse or a flame angel or coral beauty angel. All interesting, beautiful and FANTASTIC possibilities.

Funny, I have the two clowns, the six line wrasse, 4 green chromis and a two spot goby...every time I go to buy more fish...I end up with coral instead. Go figure.

Depending on if you have a refugium and how much live rock, this is my favorite fish and could do well in that tank. Mine accepted prepared foods within 5 days of coming out of the wild. It's pretty active and fun to watch. Does need an area of 4 to 5" of sand.
It's a potter's leapord wrasse If not there are several other wrasse's that are pretty cool looking. JMO

beautiful wrasse indeed. I plan on a rusty angel for my 40breeder when i finally get the cash to finish setting it up. check it out:
the excerpt from this months RK mag about them: This species is found in the West Pacific, can reach a size of about 4”, and is another good choice for an aquarium, in my experience. They stay small, are less aggressive than other Centropyge's, and haven’t been problematic in reef aquariums, either.

Yes, very nice leopard wrasse! I had a flame hawk for awhile, and they're pretty fun fish. They're perchers, and it looks like they're always staring at you. Be careful, though, although I don't think they're traditionally jumpers, that's exactly what mine did on me. I now do the smart thing and assume any fish is a jumper, since all fish potentially are.
The smaller angel fish are always very pretty. From what I understand, they can be pretty hit or miss on nipping at corals if you plan to keep a reef tank. Of course, if that rusty angel really is fairly reef safe, that would certainly be a beautiful addition.

I used to have a Canary Wrasse in my 55g FOWLR . Really is an attention getter very bright and active. My guest always seem to point him out.
The only down side is he would bury himself in the sand 14 hours . On long work days I might never see him.
