Just moved my 90g across the apartment

Well I want to start with some info; so much has happened in the past few weeks.

About 3 weeks ago I moved from Cincinnati to Tampa and had to move my 90g with me. I decided to take everything with me and set it back up when I got down there.

So I broke the tank down the night before the move but the fish still spent about 30 hours in the buckets. I unfortunately lost a yellow tang a couple chromis, shrimp, snails, etc. And to be honest my tank was in bad shape. The selection of LFS up there was low and the prices high. And the ones that were decent didn't have a great coral selection.

So I got down to Tampa saw a couple LFS's (FAOIS, Marine Warehouse) and WOW!!! So now I'm feeling good about my tank and have got a few corals and replaced my losses with a foxface and kole tang.

Anyway, we set the tank up in the corner of the dining room and tonight I really started to regret it. It was rarely seen and even when sitting at the table it was awkward to look at it.

So!!! The fun part... I got an itch and decided to move it. I really didn't want to drain it/break it down so I thought I might be able to slide it across the ceramic tiles. I know stupid. I ended up going to wal-mart and getting some furniture sliders but I still ran out of steam pretty quickly. The following videos are of my girlfriend and me moving the tank. We weren't getting anywhere moving/pushing it so I got an idea. I had a spool of cat-5 ethernet cable and a superman towel so I well, check it out yourself

Moving part 1 - 2.61mb

Moving part 2 - 4.83mb

Moving part 3 - 5.47mb

So.... I'm completely exhausted and think I will treat myself to a late night beer

Nice job man I feel your pain. I just got threw moving a 125 with my brother. we decided to leave the 5" substrate in it when we moved it to save time. Not a good idea I think we almost killed ourselves bring it down some the stairs.
But now that I look back I feel like I really accomplished something LOL!

My favorite part was the good old foot mop with the towel. Must be a reefer standard.

Yeah I didn't realize how heavy this thing was... I'm sure a 125 is even heavier!

I must have dumped 2 gallons of water on the floor through the whole thing. It took all I had to lift up the tank one corner at a time to slide the furniture sliders under the stand. I used a screwdriver and I think it's time to retire it

Brave man! Between being top heavy, the risk of rockwork tumbling down and the thought of the stand coming apart I wouldn't have tried it.

I live life on the edge

There were definitely some things that could have gone wrong and thankfully none of them did. I'm literally sore everywhere today

Glad it worked out for you!

Dude, you are the man. Okay, where did you get those sliders. What type of floor were you sliding on? That wasn't carpet, was it? hehe

Thanks for all the kind words

No, it was ceramic tile and I got the sliders from wal-mart. They said they were ok to move things up to 3200lbs but looking at the condition of those sliders I would disagree. And the "slide furniture effortlessly" absolutely did not apply here!

I thought I'd include a shot of the tanks new location... everything is still well

(it's hard to say it wasn't worth it )

TV is a lot more entertaining to watch now

Holy crap you're a madman! I'd be scared #$%%less trying to move that thing.

I agree on the placement though. In our last apartment we had our 90 in the study/computer room area and we never saw it. We've since moved across the country to North Carolina and the new tank is right next to the couch in the living room, so we can glance at it any time.

I'm getting ready to move from a 35g to a 75g.
I think I'll look a little harder at where this new tank is going now.

As for those sliders, we have the same ones on some of the furniture in our house and they seem to actually work better on carpet than on hard floors.

Actually just the opposite. The tile is ceramic and those sliders are plastic - they took quite a beating
