Super-Ghettolicious Kalkwasser Reactor - FREE!

A friend and I built this monstrosity last year as a temporary kalkwasser reactor using acrylic tubing, a maxi-jet and a scrumptious mound of epoxy.

I'm too ashamed to post pictures of it. However, it works great. The colors include, clear, black and pink. The design itself is pretty ingenious due to the fact that the Maxijet 1200 sits on top of the reactor resulting in the reactor not taking up too much sump space.

Free to good home.

It's 8" acrylic tube Tom. Actually it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be.

Gabe, 7.9 is too low, kick that up slowly to 8.3-8.4. If you can keep it stable at 8.3-8.4 you will be gold.

kalk is for alk and calcium, it has the added benefit of raising pH, however, if not properly controlled, it can wipe out your tank in about 45 seconds if not faster

Hey Gabe, can't you use a buffer to increase it slowly? Like Kent Marine SuperBuffer dKH. Or is this not good for your tank?

The buffer can raise the pH but that's a fairly temporary fix and the rise in alkalinity remains far past that.
I small amount of limewater can raise the pH and does have an effect on alkalinity but very little.

In 100 gallons 16 oz of limewater will raise dKH by only 0.143 and skyrocket the pH if dosed all at once. The rise in pH will also be temporary limewater and is why it's best to drip or dose in very small amounts.
