Not a carpenter...check my stand PICS?

Well, I'm not a carpenter...nor the son of a carpenter. This is just the basic frame construction so far for my 55 gallon (48 inch wide) tank in progress.

Of course, I will need to add plywood to the bottom, sides, back, top, and some sort of face frame front and a couple doors.

Anyone see any major problems with this structure so far???

The start:

All together:

A side view:

After a little wood putty:

Thanks for looking! Any advice appreciated...

It should work OK. The 2x6 is good. Make sure the frame is square when you attach your plywood back and sides.

Looks good, are you going to paint or stain it?

Thanks for all the helpful and encouraging comments. I plan to prime it, then paint it black. My tank trim and background are already painted black.

Not really sure on the best primer/paint to use. Also, not sure on where I can get a couple unfinished doors for the front. I don't have the tools or the skills to make my own doors so I was hoping I could pick some up. Last time I was in HD they said they don't sell them...

I'll post pics when I get to the next step...

Thanks again,

Jason

I know they sell cabinet doors in HD... you could just use those. If they are too big you could get one of those long and skinny doors and cut it in half. Then use the cut piece as the bottom. The design wouldn't be perfect but it would be the same on both sides. *shrug*

I've purchased several doors from this company which was recommend by a bunch of people on this board. Good quality doors and inexpensive, even with shipping.

Your stand is looking good.

As far as priming/painting you could use a nice acrylic primer and acrylic topcoat. They are a waterbased quickdry product. Sherwin-Williams has a couple of nice products. I am partial to Benjamine Moore, but it all comes down to preference. I have also seen the doors at HD, sometimes they move product around or restock. I would look near the kitchen design area.

That's very nice! Overbuilt to be sure, but there is nothing wrong with that. Very well done.
