The "all the problems" we have had thread...

I read threads from time to time on here of people having major issues...and most get very discouraged. I think this is because they might feel like they are the only ones having issues...they come in here and see all these amazing tanks and think, well I am doing something wrong and it is futile and endless so they give up...Maybe if everyone posts the troubles they have had, maybe it will help encourage them to push through and figure things out...So list your troubles and what worked for to solve the problem, this also might help if people have similar issues...

Problem: Keeping SPS alive, esp. wild and mari cultured colonies.
Solution: Weekly water changes

Problem: Marco Algae on one signal rock
Solution: Foxface and a Naso tang, still not fully under control

So lets here everyone else's trials and tribulations....

Coming home to find out the power went out, the fan isn't blowing across my t5's, a powerhead didn't re-start, and the automated 2 part doser didn't restart. Just a daily reminder to double check all my equipment. Other than that, my sps do rather well........lol....

Snail made its way to the overflow and stopped water passage, caused tank to overflow and get flooded with saturated kalk top-off water...results, some bleaching due to salinity decrease, now recovering and getting color back....solution...none, how often does a snail make its way over to the overflow chamber and manage to get inside the PVC pipe?

Problem: If its in the main tank with even the slightest sickness, quarantine kills it pretty much immediately.

Solution: TBD. Theories include too aggressive medication, unstable QT water quality, coincidence, stress of moving, coincidence etc.

coming home from macna to a few dead sps including two large tables about 12" across (the actual problem was found a week ago - sg at 1.020 because of a salt bridge leak and an out of calibration refractometer)

solution - tested with a floating hydrometer to figure out why i was seeing recession and gradually brought salinty back up to where it should be - time will tell how many more i lose since the damage was already done.

the biggest one i have had - AEFW
solution: quaranteen and aggressive dipping. even tho i lost about 50 out of 170 colonies, i consider it a success because i havent seen them or damage in almost a year.

these are just two - there have been many others less severe

if it were easy, it would get boring.

Problem: Brown corals
Solution: 25% weekly water changes, trying to feed less, extended photoperiod, already skimming hard. DSB, Phosban reactor, pulling large clumps of macro out of the fuge every couple of days. It is a tough battle...

Problem: Montis turning "grey", tank acting odd.
Solution: Accidentally got shocked, find equipment that is leaking electricity into the tank and remove it.

Problem: Slow Growth, unable to keep some montis, low alk. Due to malconfigured calcium reactor
Solution: (in works) Turn off calcium reactor get parameters back to desired with baking soda, then re-adjust calcium to maintain correct levels

Problem: Calcium to high (1000ppm+)
Solution: Don't trust city water, get RO/DI

Problem: Majonas and Aptaisa.
Solution: buy 4 bottles of Joes juice, and aptaisa (something) from blu reef.. turn off all pumps and nuke them.

Problem: SPS downstream from leather showing signs of stress
Solution: relocate corals that might be irrating leather, re-locate stressed corals to be upstream from leather.

Problem: Monti Eating Nudibranks
Solution: Isolate infected colonies in a frag like tank that is easy to access, when ever possible inspect piece for nudis, attack with paper clip and remove.

Problem: Redbugs.
Solution: if possible remove all acros and dose interceptor in a bucket if not possible, dose tank.

Problem: Dosing pump falls in sump
Solution: Pout, and dose manually until you get it repaired.

Problem: BM giant collector cup spills gross skimate on your feet when ever you are pouring it out
Solution: pour veerrrryyyyyyy sloowlly.

Problem: 4"+ Mantis in large main supporting rock.
Solution: Pretend like you enjoy having a mantis in your tank.

The problem that I have now is coloration due to low Alk(I'm pretty sure), so I am slowly raising it. I also think it is due to low mag levels.
