DIY Stand and canopy for 72 bowfront

Anyone happen to build one of these? Just picked up a 72 bowfront and want to build my own stand and canopy. Any ideas?

tubular steel frame 1" or 1 1/4" with 1/4" veneer trim as you see fit...

atleast i am assuming you are looking for a way around the front of the bow?

There was a fellow on here earlier this year that did a very nice job on a curved wooden stand and canopy for a big bowfront. Can't remember who now but maybe a search will pop it up for you.

I built one for a 72 bow. Just cut the curve out of a 2x8 and put in a center support. I have some old pics on my desktop. I suppose I could dig them up if you really wanted me to.

Consider sheet formica. Black gives a modern look, bends, of course, and it is way easy to clean, doesn't have to be sanded, stained, varnished. A little framing in black-enameled quarter round and you're good: I'd use a strong frame of 2x4s and maybe make it oversized or give it an extension: take a look at the SUMP/REFUGIUM you want to put down there, plus your light ballasts, skimmer, kalk or calcium reactor, and you may find an extra ell on the thing could hold, say, your stereo while concealing a multitude of sins.

Was thinking of making the base of the stand out of 2x4 and then using oak to cover it and for the top was going to make it one solid piece of 3/4 in oak plywood and trimmed out. That way I could make the stand bigger to hold more and would look like a nice furniture piece as well. Any thoughts on this will it work?

Very nice.. That is definately a nice starting point. Just what I kind of was looking to do. Couple questions. Do you have any pics of the finished that are a little better? What did you use after the 2x4 frame was built to finish it off?

Eric
