Huge warty frogfish...what does he eat? Scorpionfish too.

So I ordered a bunch of fish from a wholesaler in Indonesia and for the most part I get these tiny fish even though I specified fish at least 6 inches long. However I was also sent a 10-12 inch warty frogfish that seems to be taking down quite a few of these tiny fish.

Every day I feed squid, shrimp and mussels but the frogfish does not go for these at all. I also feed live small crabs every day but it appears that he doesn't like these either. What does a huge warty frogfish eat once the expensive feeders are gone?

BTW, I also have a red ambon scorpionfish that I would think would eat the live crab, but he doesn't eat these at all. Any ideas on what he would eat?

I am no expert, but being an avid diver, and seeing these guys all the time in the wild, I would feel safe in assuming that they would not take well to frozen or pellet type foods. They are part of the angler fish family and would most likely prefer LIVE small fish to anything else.

this is only my opinion and experiance but i find feeding any animal live food kinda trains them to hunt with most reptilesive kept it happens and ive seen it happen with fish. it can cause problems while your cleaning the tank as the fish will try to get your fingers i dont know how others feel about this but IMO exoctic pet owners should try to ween their pets on dead food

That is very true. You should try to get all fish to eat frozen or at least dead food, but some fish and some other animals kept in captivity, they just do not do well if they are not fed live food. I strongly feel that is that is the case, then they should not be kept in an aquarium, but that is only my opinion. I would rather see the fish in the ocean than starving in an aquarium because they wont eat dead or frozen food.

I have access to live food every day in the form of crabs that I can get on the beach. I also get fresh squid, shrimp and mussels from the local market. So far the only thing that seems to be consumed are the fish that swim up in front of it's mouth.

it will just take awhile few weeks easy way to entice him is put a silverside on a feeding stick and wiggle it in front of his face. I dont know how your tryin to deliver the food to him but feeding stick is the best way to go lets you keep some of your fingers
