closed loop in a non-drilled tank
Can I do a closed loop in a non drilled tank? I want to get rid of the power heads but get high flow in my 50g sps tank.
Thanks |

I use a system based on Melevs design, it works very well and is powered by a sequence dart.

I am using a Quiet One 6000 it puts out 1506 GPH with zero head loss. Aftter my head loss Im at 1300 GPH on the closed loop alone. There is no need for powerheads as The closed loop runs consistantly and has a wavemaker to re direct flow every 20 seconds. My retunr pump also puts out decent flow, both pumps make up for without a problem the use of powerheads.

I also built a melev style closed loop for my old 55. I use a mag 12 and a squid. I was really happy with it, but wish I would have went with a bigger pump because the squid lessens the flow a little bit. If I had to do it again, I would build the same exact setup, except use a pump around the 1500 gph range. good luck
