Luminarc III mini vs another bulb
I currently have a 150 14k phoenix over my 30"x24"x8" prop tank. And some of my bigger SPS frags are having problems with even lighting giving a single light source. I was wondering if it would be better to get a Luminarc III DE reflector to better spread the light or two added another 150 to the tank.

Since you already have 1 DE unit I would just add another 150w DE to the setup. If you only want 1 unit on the tank then I would go with the Lumenarc 3 due to the increased size of the L3 compared to 1 DE mini.

Only 8 " deep, I would think that just upgrading the reflector would work. I owned the reflctor you have now. It isnt bad given the price and I liked them as par of a combo lighting system with T5's. But given the area you have to cover, no way does that little reflector supply the spread to evenly light the area.
I would consider the Lumenarc III in the 19.5 " square version even. I know that these are typically sold in SE versions only. But I believe that you can get one ordered with a DE socket. I would contact a dealer like Reefexotics.com and ask. I could be wrong about that though. Barring that, the Lumenarc mini DE should work out well. Much better coverage than what you have now and no reason to increase heat and electric by adding a second light if a larger reflector will do the job. Thats what I would do, anyway. Cool frag tank by the way. |

Deffinitely get the lumenarac with the DE socket, way better spread and your corals will thank you. The stealth version is great.
