Inexpensive hydrophones
I've been interested lately in underwater sound, and have started looking for a very cheap hydrophone to mess around with. About the best I've been able to find so far is the DolphinEAR 100, but it's up in the $300 range. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

Here's an idea. I did it with a camera and it was totally underwater.
I took a bell jar type container with a gasket, put my camera into the jar and sealed the jar. THis was a small digital camera with a remote. I used the remote to focus and take the pic underwater. You could probably seal a cheap mic inside the same type of jar, using a little silicone where the ware come out. It might work and it would be inexpensive to try. Let me know. Sounds like fun. I can talk to my fish like Scooby Doo.
