Wink Ok, explain THIS.

This evening I noticed a hermit crab on my mag float, a foot or so above the floor of the aquarium.

Now I know those guys can't climb up the glass.

I haven't touched my mag float for at least 3 days.

I haven't seen him on the float for the last 3 days.

How did he get there?!?

They can totally climb up the glass. Mine do it all the time. Once tiny microscopic particles attach to that glass, it's like rock climbing for the little critters.

My guess would be a piggyback ride on a snail and hop, on the mag-float

I'm betting on the snail.

But they're clever little beggars.

Interesting that some of you have seen them climb glass, because I've had this tank for 6 years and have never seen that.

The snail piggyback makes a lot of sense, as I've got a bunch of snails in the tank and on the front glass.

I'd say he climbed the silicone up and over and fell off on to the magfloat........your glass seems much too clean for him to climb........I also like the snail hitchhiker theory

Mine were climbing up the silicone 5 minutes after I dropped them in. I guess they liked their freedom.

I've had mine climb the silicone too...

But my favorite crab propulsion show is when they bother a clam and it slams shut, and the crab goes "ping" off the glass from the water displacement...

Now if a clam got the trajectory just right, this could have been just a great bank shot...

Obvious to me that he just jumped from rock to float.

I have a shrimp goby that loves to grab hermits and move them about. (usually just back to his den for a little love I think)...maybe you have another type of crab carrying fish.

I've watched mine climb the silicone as well as the coralline covered glass.
