chaeto lighting

Have JBJ 12gal nano .Been battling a off and on outbreak of stringy brown algae that looks like snot.(excuse the expression). Forms in 2-3 days , kinda has a gelananous appearance. Can suck out most with a turkey baster but the stuff is doing a number on my zoo's.
First chamber has sponge with filter floss on top, Second chamber has chemi-pure and purigen.
Thing about taking the sponge out and putting purigen in first chamber with pump, the purigen on top off it anf filter floss over it. In the second chamber I am thinking about putting chaeto in second chamber. Will Current USA Lunar Light: Moon White Moon Light provide enough lighting?

Good idea about the sponge disposal and possible chaeto fuge. And no, the lunar lighting will not be enough.

What you are describing is most likely, cyano. It is nasty stuff. I hate it. You can try running some phosphate removers to try to slow it down. Having good circulation in the tank helps too.

What is your nitrate and phosphate levels?

Hey micromount. We are about to try a refugium packed with chaeto in the center compartment of the overflow in our NC28. I’ve read that many folks use a 9”-5” mini compact fluorescent light or the Nanocustoms 3.1 Fuge Light for this mod. We are going to try the Coralife Mini-Aqualight 2-9w 67K Freshwater lamp from the premiumaquatics Web site. We will post when we do. Good luck modding! -Trey
