Can anyone identify this????

I have posted this before in the Marine Plants and Macroalgae and I still have no answer. Now this is spreading on this rock only. The best way to describe the look is this: Think of a clown making balloons for animals. That is the exact shape of this. Anyone have this in their tank or seen this before. If so...I would really like to know what it is. It started off as one spear and well now you can see it's multiplying!!!

Thanks in advance,
Marci

Looks pretty cool. Can I have some? If it's not hurting anything I'd let it be and see what it does. I have some green stuff looks just like it. Mine's a type of macro.

I'd venture to guess some species of Scinaia... if that is what it is let it grow! Nice and unique!

Ive had some in my tanks , but never got a positive ID . Very slow spreading as long as your not high nutrient , even then its slow . It should start splitting out other branches off those single stalks soon.

I would guess it's scinaia as well. (scinaia complanata?)

I have some in my tank as well and I really like it. It grows pretty quickly but doesn't seem to spread to other rocks. In three months it has grown from the size in your picture to a nice clump larger than my fist.
I've been trying to 'frag' it with no success. I've tried to superglue pieces to other rocks, tying it loosely with fishing line and hoping that it roots. It eventually comes loose and I find it sticking to my powerheads. If anybody has any ideas, let me know!

It almost has the same kinda consistancy and feel of valonia . I also tried to transplant with no success , although its super easy to pop off the rock .

Thanks guys for all the input. I have been doing research and have yet to find this "balloon" macro. I am afraid to touch it...it looks like it's filled with helium and will float away !! I am going to let it be and post pictures if and when it grows branches. So far it is sprouting just single branches on the rock
