Help: How to remove a Clam

Ive got a 3inch maxima clam I believe. Its healthy and happy but I want to re due the setup of my rock and i dont know how to safely detach the little guy from his rock.

carefully tilt the clam to the side and cut the byssal filaments with a scalpel or razor. If the byssus is still extended, touch it with the back of the knife/scalpel/razor to make it withdraw. Whatever you do, don't tear the clam off, this may damage the byssus, leading to the demise of the clam.

One thing you could try is to put something like a piece of black acrylic over the top of the tank to cast a shadow over it. If it doesn't move by itself, you'll have a heck of a time not damaging its foot.

make sure you cut the filaments as far away from the clams shell as possible

I have never seen a clam so firmly attached that it could not be removed safely. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, bring it in to ATR and I will do it for you.
