Love the acanlord. Nice color combination. Is this red with white stripe?

Got same yellow worm but it did not survive. How long its been there in your tank? I have hitch hiker brown tube worm and up to now, it is growing.

The yellow feather duster is in this tank about 2 months. The other worms are longer and about 6 months to one year in the tank. The purple and white worm in the bottom center keeps growing.

For educational purposes, I thought I'd explain how my setup works and post some pics. Here goes:

My Tank: Last year in January I decided to set this tank up with one major goal and two concepts in mind. I wanted to maintain a successful reef with simplicity and cost efficiency. For the most part I have stayed true to my concepts in the actual setup.

The tank has a false wall with a loop return system with ball valves to control direction/output. There is no mechanical filtration whatsoever. I only keep two fish in order to keep bioload lower. I do water changes regularly to keep all parameters stable; I don't skim since I didn't want to spend too much money on equipment.

The corals have almost all come from frags considerably smaller than they are now. All corals were just at or under $30 a piece. (now the clams and coco-worms are a different story ) This tank has been a joy and quite a learning experience!

Setup shots:

Clam shots (my favorites!!)
2 croceas from clamsdirect

1 crocea from fishsafari and 1 squamosa from reefscience

Thanks for taking the time out to read and look at the pics. Hope this helps someone.

I like your lighting system design. I do have plans on upgrading my T5s to MH. Yours I think has less heat transfer since it is located outside the hood plus the glass helps in filtering heat coming from MH.

Yeah I switched over to this MH around January this year. It's definitely been nice since it allows me to keep clams. The heat issue isn't too bad, but I still keep a fan on the tank just to keep things down a bit. I think HQI's have to have glass on the lighting in order to filter UV rays...I'm not sure though.

Also, some people might argue that T5's have more advantages than MH; better bulb life, less heat, more efficient. If what you have works and you can keep what you want in the tank, then I might not change it. Just a thought though. I've actually thought about switching to T5's myself...haha.

Saw reef tank of my friend here lit by MH and it seems sps are more colorful than mine. Read threads that MH color up SPS so I considered switching my lights.
