Question Lace Rock as Base Rock?

i am running a store in Indiana and i just started up my saltwater fish units and for decor i put some dry lace rock(feller stone) in.
Now i keeping loseing fish for unknown reasons. And wanted any info. also after the first two days the lace rock had this whiteish film/like stuff on it never seen that before. Could that be the problem? Have two full units of chema-pure in the sump just in case. The tanks equal to about 80gals. Still losing fish. TANK IS CYCLED.
thank you

Hehehe sorry if that didn't answer your question.

I'm not sure if the lace rock is causing the problem or not. The only thing I could think of the whiteish film being is calcification off the rocks or bacteria. What kind of water testing have you done for the water? How are the fish dying? Do they appear sick, clamped fins, breathing rapidly?

First, I am no expert and could be in error.

The white film is dust/dirt/etc. sticking to the rock as a 'slime' coat forms on it. That happened to every piece of dead rock I put in my tank.

As for the fish dying, that could be from the rock. I know people that have had lace rock leech chemicals into the water and kill things. Personally I have ~30# of lace rock in my tank and it causes no problems. I have coralline, zoa, gsp, and other things growing on it.

What kind of fish are dying? How much LR/LS do you already have in the tank?

that's my $0.02

Was this rock rinsed and soaked BEFORE adding it to the holding tanks?

I've used lace rock in two different tanks with no ill-effects. I did however get the same slimy/fuzzy white stuff on it. It eventually went away. How long has the tank been running?
