question for other phyto growers
i currently culture phyto and use F2 and feed it to my tank/clams. just curious if red cyno is just something you have come to live with in your tank or is it i'm just adding to much f/2 to my cultures which is causing the cyno to grow
thanks jeff |

I haven seen any ill effects from adding home grown phyto to my tanks, but i dose sparingly, how long are you culturing your phyto for, i leave my for 14 days, most recommend 10 but im using lower lighting, and the colour still darkens at around 12-13 days. I think the most important thing is harvesting time, to make sure that your phyto actually absorbs the f2 in the water, so that you are not dosing your tanks with phyto and f2.

How much F2, and how large are your culture containers?

I'm not familiar with the powder, but I would assume is more concentrated than the liquid. Hopefully someone can advise on how much.

Quote:
All-in-one-powder Cell-hi F2P based on the Guillard F/2 medium and has exactly the same N, P trace element and vitamin content. Most people in aquaculture use this - 1 kg makes 10,000 liters culture medium at F/2 strength. (100 grams(3.5 ounces) to 1 liter distilled water.) I use 1ml of this F/2 stock solution per liter of phyto culture water. http://www.variconaqua.com/nutrients.htm |
