The purtiest tang!

I see alot of people asking about smaller tangs, and have to say I'm so stoked w/ my tennenti(lieutenant).
So peaceful/pretty, and a great veggie be gone critter!
gets along w/ others and even sucks the surface of sand clean.
Surprised more reefers don't have them.

I'd love to have one, but I've got three tangs in my tank at the moment. Maybe when I get my 180, I'll pick one up.

Nice fish! Though topping out at a foot long, I wouldn't call it a "small" tang

same as Palani?

Hey,

Im not sure but this looks veery similar to my Palani tang. I bet their the same! Yes, give 'em good wateer quality, and the colors will really show! My Palani is the biggest tang in my tank...6", and he is like you say, very community oriented. He keeps my Sohal Tang in line. If he didnt I would have to get rid of the Sohal. So, he not only is good looking, but he keeps the rest of the fish secure and happy!

I read that they get like 8"-10" and right now it's only about 3".
So, smallish for a tang I guess I should say.
Not sure about the Palani, but I'd like to see pics.

Yeah, I've seen from 6" - 10" on different sites.
I've read that they do stay smaller in captivity.
Msuzuki, that is a nice one, how big is that?
Mr9iron, I feed mine mysis/cyclopeez every other day and flakes the other.
I also give nori almost daily, and it absoulutely loves it, as well as picking my tank clean.
Not sure about having 3 or the schooling thing, usually tangs don't mix well w/ same type unless one male/female.
It does love my naso though, and puppy dogs it constantly.
Even my snotty maroon gets along w/ them.

Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing it change color even though it's already pretty.
Like an added surprise as time passes, can't get bored w/ it!

How old are they approx. and size?

They look like slow grower and more cleaner fish than swimming.

Don't know the age, I've only had mine about 2 months or maybe a little more.
Mine is about 3".
They actually have quite a few names, tennenti, lieutenant, double bar or double banded surgeon or tang, and a couple other names I've seen.
There's a good list of tangs on a site called DR jungles animal world that has some good info on many tangs.
