Corals suitable with T5 lighting

Hello all,

I am currently using T5 lighting that has 2 54w 10000k bulbs and 2 54w slimpaq 460nm actinic bulbs. I currently have pulsing xenia that is doing great and also some colony polyps that are expanding as well. What type of other corals can I keep. I was thinking about frogspawn as one option but the lighting requirements might not be enough. any advice or suggestions on suitable corals compatible with my lights would be great

Thanks
Harry

If u have 4 bulb with individual reflectors , and have it about 4 inches from the surface which you should since t5s give off no heat, you can basically keep anythign you want, i have a 55 tall and4 bulbs t5s and can keep everything , (have to keep clams up high , and high light acros higher up but other then that you shoudlnt have a probalem with anythign as long as you have good water and the reflectors(important) without those you proablyl cant keep SPS

Yeah, you can keep anything. Absolutely not interested in the MH/T5 debate but that's a debate about aesthetics, not PAR. T5s have enough PAR to keep anything alive, so you should be fine (assuming your h20 conditions are otherwise pristine).

Agreed....Also, are they using ind. reflectors? I run 6x54 Tek T5 ballast on my 75, and have many demanding SPS corals and clams. 4x54 should also do the trick, you may have limitations on the lower part of the tank/ reef....Just my 2 cents....

I agree that with the proper amount of T5 lighting and correct placement of your various corals you can even keep SPS.

I have seen many tanks that are mature, well established tanks, that had tons of SPS that were thriving. The biggest concern if you are going to keep SPS will be amount of T5 and good husbandy/water quality.

You will find some that will disagree that SPS cannot be kept undr T5's or other forms of flourescents but that is just untrue.
