Fishbase is very thorough, but not easy to navigate, IMO.
Try wetwebmedia.com for more common species. If it's some weird, unknown fish, what I do is look up the closest thing I can on wetwebmedia, then punch in that genus into fishbase and start checking out the different species. hth

Ya fishbase can be rough unless you know the Genus. I don't ever seem to be able to search by common name.
Bob Fenner does have some incredible pics on Wetweb. Carl |

Actually, if you know how to look, Fishbase.org is incredibly easy to use. If you go down to 'search by family' and click the 'identification' circle, it will give you a page of thumbnails for the entire family (at least for species that have confirmed pictures). If you are unsure of the family, just google it. Many times, you will find if you type in a genus, that you will get members that are no longer considered a part of the genus--you will find a control at the top that says 'show all valid species', which will give you what you need. You get much better at the more you have to use it.

Sounds like the fourline wrasse (Pseudocheilinus tetrataenia), not a sixline wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia).
