My new hood

Alright so we where going to get a current sunpod and i finally was able to convince my dad to get retrofit kits for our new 90 gallon tank. So like any normal family does... They build a new hood! So i am going to go through the process of us building it.

Basically its quarter sawn Oak.

So we started out making a rough layout/template for what we where going to do pictured here:

Once that was done we glued the boards together, plained them and everything and then cut them to fit pictured in the next two pictures:

Then we glued and nailed the pieces together which is pictured here in the clamp.

It opens two ways, one to feed which is in the lower right hand corner and the top will open to get inside the tank to do things.

For circulation we are using two 4" fans so we cut the holes on each side pictured in the next two pictures.

And the ending result is with white paint on the inside and the finish on the outside is not finished yet but where it is:

And here is a few pictures of the wood shop:

It has a kiln and paint room located upstairs with wood storage upstairs in the back and in a few places inside the actual shop. We also have an automated dust collection system.

Looks good, but what kind of lights will you be running? Do you think 2 fans will be enough to cool your lights?

Ha we are going to run 2-250 watt MH retrofit kits, and 4 VHO bulbs. If it gets to hot we have the ability to add more fans or a chiller. We are going to try it out and if its to hot make adjustments.

Alright here is the almost finished hood.

And on the tank with everything hooked up. Vho's are not in place. And minor adjustments are being made and things so this is not entirely finished.

Nice. How are you going to keep light from leaking from along the hinges?
