You need a prescription from a veterinarian to obtain the pill which brings up a problem because a vet cannot legally prescribe the medication without seeing the coral and verifying the diagnosis of red bugs themselves (and a picture is not sufficient). I've read posts that some people have been able to purchase the med online but I have no personal experience with this.

Are any commercial coral dips effective against red bugs??

Something like Warner Marine Coral Dip, Seachem Reef Dip or the Kent RX-P????

Actually, the usage for red bugs is technically off-label, so it wouldn't matter if the vet saw your coral or not, it's still not a usage he can prescribe it for. Still, a good vet (if you have one that sees your furry pets) should give you a wink and hand it over - that's what mine does.

Interceptor is approved for off-label usage.

When I treated for red bugs 1.5 years ago, I sent my vet a pic of my tank and described exactly what I needed and what was going on. The prescription was not a problem after that.
