If you wany your BTAs to split, I would suggest feeding it more. I've heard this will cause them to split. Thats how I got my RBTA to split at least 4 times.

i was just reading an article by anthony calfo about fragging them and how nature reproduces them slowly while you could get up to 1000 bta's from one by cutting them in half every week in one year. i think that is too excessive but maybe someone would know more about this.

I have been lucky enough to hear Anthony give his presentation on anemone propagation. With healing times of 1 week and the next splitting the week after that, there is plenty of opportunity for manual propagation.

The need for manual propagation depends solely on the purpose of the second anemone. If it's for you're own personal tank, then just wait it out. If you are looking to create large numbers for a business, then manual splitting is the only way to go. The reproduction rate of BTAs in the wild are extremely slow. And at the rate we as a hobby/industry are collecting them, there is cause for major concern. I applaud anyone who is willing to manually split their anemone rather than purchasing a second wild caught one. If it's for a business than more power to you!

I have proped two in the past year. Following Anthony's advise I have had success both times. Sold two and gave one to a friend.
They healed over in about a few days but they were not eating/recovered for a few weeks.

I've cut one with success. Give about a month to recover.

Yo Jeff, at one point two years ago, I must have had 15 of the things. All of them from a run in with a powerhead.
