MH height above water ?
I'm lighting my 125g SPS reef with Hamilton Reefstar pendants ... 14K 250w.
Right now they are suspended with the bottom of the fixture located about 5" above the water (bulb is approx 6" above water). Am I hanging them to low? I see some have them a foot or more above the water. What would the experts recommend? |

8" is usually a good height in my experience. The heat is one of the concern and the light will cover more area when its a little higher ... am sure there are other reasons, maybe someone can chime in

8~10 is usually good....(due to heat). true that the higher up it is will create a wider area, penetration to the bottom then becomes less. You should ok be at 8~10"...IMO

I have 1 150w DE only 3" above tank. The only time I have heat issues is in summer here in SoCal so I plave a fan on top and get some nice evaporative cooling as well. Never a problem even in 110 degree weather

Ever been 158mph on a bike with your wife riding with you? You could tear off the dented pieces of skin with her fingerprints on them. It's not a bike if it's not over a liter |
