I'm more concerned about that pink zone on the map. Freezing rain causes power lines to snap.....

Boy do I feel better going into this winter having purchased a generator.

It isn't a very big one and my wife was a little puzzled when she found out it could only keep the fish tank going and not keep her warm!

Ellery-

How was TSO? The keyboard guy/musical director is my oldest/best friend and a native of Buffalo. The show seems to get grander every year...

Looks like we dodged a bullet down here. This time. Tomorrow I'm going to start shopping for a generator. We've had two floods in a year. So far I've been lucky (even though my clinic flooded both times). I don't want to press my luck. Thanx for the heads up Gary.

I lost power at my house... twice. Fortunately, each time was for about 5 seconds.

I've only lost one window shutter... but the wind is still howling.

I bought a 4kw generator on ebay for about $230 shipped brand new. I've fired it up and put it under a load and seems to work ok. But I'm kind of curious. I wonder how long my tank can hold its temp. If the power goes out in the middle of the night or while I'm at work, a generator isn't going to do me much good. Its not like I have a transfer switch for it or anything.

Probably depends on at least 4 factors
temp outside
wind
how energy efficient your house is
size of tank

Those factors alone would greatly influence the outcome of the thermodynamics...

Lost power for 6 hours last night, thankfully just after the Sabres beat the Rangers in a shoot out.

My little generator was up to the task once again....glad I changed the oil (which looked like tar) and filter after its last week long continuous run!

When we're done with tuition we're getting a whole house natural gas generator.

John

Yeah great game huh John . My roommate tells me we lost power twice at our house for about 5 minutes during the game but everything is fine. Better than the last time

We lost power at 7:55pm last night for about 10minutes, then had a brown out. We had enough power for the lights to all look like they were on dimmers at a very low setting. Even the Christmas lights were on dimly.

I hooked up the generator just before 9pm. We got power back at about 1am. Generators = GOOD!!

Ellery and Drtango - I was able to see them in Syracuse this year and last, what a performance. We had great seats. Straight on. Awesome show. The special effects are awesome. Can't wait for them to produce more CD's as I have all of them now.
